churnings of the sea

I have always been fond of the sea. Particularly during the winter months, the seaside is a space where I find release from city life and indulge in the art of being alone. By the sea, it’s just you and endless blue.

Piecing together words by Haruki Murakami and Anuradha Roy, Churnings of the Sea is an homage to the serenity, anger, persistence, and mesmerising quality of the sea. Below are excerpts I selected for this piece:

  • “Until someone came and rested a hand on my shoulder, my thoughts were of the sea” (Haruki Murakami – South of the Border, West of the Sun)

  • “The sea rushed toward the beach, then retreated with a roar, as if coming in had been a mistake” (Anuradha Roy – Sleeping on Jupiter)

  • “At every sea, she would sit down like this (…and wait for it to tell her something, she didn’t know what, but she’d know when it came)” (Anuradha Roy – Sleeping on Jupiter)

Churnings of the Sea is framed in 4in x 6in.
